Liege, a city with many names in diverse languages: In French it is Liège, locally it is called Lîdje, in Dutch it’s Luik and for people out of Luxembourg it`s Léck, we Germans call it Lüttich. It was the recommendation of a friend from exchange. At first when I drove into it from Luxembourg the city it was purring rain and traffic jam and I just drove through ugly skyscrapers, so I wasn’t sorry for the lost afternoon. I hoped that she wasn’t absolutely wrong. She wasn’t! Liége has such nice areas these where just the opposite direction from where I drove in. If you have some time left in Belgium a day trip here is absolutely worth it. But have a look in the following to see my impressions.

Don't even know the name of this church, google doesn't say neither. It is right beside the beginning of the Montagne de Bueren.

Montagne de Bueren - a long stair leading from the old town up to a great view over the city. Yes I had to catch my breath when I got up, but it was worth it!

Searching fro the way to the Coteaux de la Citadelle, another view point not far from the big stairs.

Can't even tell you why, this was a small pond in the park around Coteaux de la Citadelle, but I really liked the look of it. There is no filter on this picture, it was that green.

Details, there is so many maintenance needed in Liége, this is just a small part of it. So many beautiful buildings, some empty, some not, but a lot of them in really bad conditions. It gives the city a unique flair, but in the long term it will destroy the buildings even more if no one invests in them and that would be a pity.

Le Palais des Princes-Évêques.

Cathédrale Saint-Paul de Liège under construction. You can't always have good luck traveling. I thing Belgium was the country with the most attractions under construction. So relating to my comment on the window, they luckily are investing and there is so much more to invest to keep this beautiful city in good shape.

At least the inside was beautiful. I really enjoy to look up in churches or cathedrals.

The main station Liège-Guillemins. I met an old woman in my hostel room who said to me, that it is her second time in Liége and that the first time she just changed trains but was so in awe with the central station so she decided to come back one day to explore the city. So I decided to visit it as well and I totally get what she meant! It is such a beautiful architectural composition, I took a ton of photos from it and in the following you see just a few more.

P.S. Always happy when I see a rainbow flag :) Gives a big plus to this city!

I made some many pictures from different angles from this installation, this are my two favorite ones. I actually had to sneak into a private area of a rowing club to get to see it up close.

There where three guys fishing and super exited about this big catch which luckily ended free in the river just after this shot :) Still don't really get why they catch them without intend to feed from them...
