Bruges - Belgium
When I told people I‘m going to visit Bruges almost everybody mentioned the movie “In Bruges”. If you haven’t watched it, I saw it afterwards and it was fun to revive the journey. Bruges is as beautiful as the movie presents it in a weird but funny way. In Flemish it is called Brugge, in French Bruges and in German Brügge. It is full of old and beautiful buildings with a unique flair and I would love to spent some more time again. I left on a very rainy day and the time for my road trip was limited, but I really enjoyed it.
Not Bruggest but right at the border - The castle Het Kasteel van Loppem
Brugges has multiple calals spread through a beautiful old buildings.
Walking by the Hoogstraat.
Stadsbestuur Brugge - The townhall
Basilica of the Holy Blood.
View at the marketplace.
Still at the historic market.
Provinciaal Hof with a cute couple in front.
First of May Parade
I woke up from trompets and drums because the parade for the first of May passed by my hostel. I hurried up and followed the parade for a unique “sightseeing tour” through the city. Such a positive vibe and no aggressive demonstrations like they happen in Berlin, my hometown, every now and then… I have no clue what their flags and slogans where telling but it felt really positive to me.
Even the tourist train took part in the parade.
Old and young united.
Rozenhoedkaai.
Statue of Saint Joannes Nepomucenus.
The police was present, but it felt as if they weren’t necessary and participated friendly.
Even the small streets look cute and the obligatory bycicles are present everywhere.
Art, I don't know why, but it reminded me of Frida Kahlo.
Sint-Salvatorskathedraal
A cathedral full of art.
Onze Lieve Vrouw Brugge.
Horse Head Drinking Fountain.
Ten Wijngaerde.
Kasteel Minnewater Restaurant.
Langerei Canals
Even the wallflowers are picturesque in Bruges .
Imagine having a house directly bordering a canal. I love it!
A church by the canal, can't recap the name.
Windmills
Windmills and bicycles are the symbol for the Netherlands for me, now I learned that some regions in Belgium not only share the language but also the flair. Such a great holiday feeling!
Koeleweimolen.
Rio Claro.
Not 100% sure, but this should be the Onze-Lieve-Vrouw ter Potterie.
Sint-Janshuismolen the first...
... and second.
Bonne-Chièremolen the first...
... the second ...
... and third.
Kruispoort gate, not far from my hostel.
