Sault Ste. Marie to Thunder Bay - Canada

My road trip lead me from Manitoulin Island to Sault Ste. Marie and then to Thunder Bay. The first part wasn't too long, just 343 km, but really beautiful according to its scenery. Sadly, stopping was not always possible and I wished so many times my eyes would be capable of taking pictures because I was so in awe, but couldn’t stop anywhere near the road.

Fall colors :)

I heard that the train ride is also really nice, so if you don't like to drive, maybe this would be your option.

Sault Ste. Marie

I just spent half a day in Sault Ste. Marie and walked down to the boardwalk, so I can’t tell much of the city, but it seemed cute to me.

Walking by the Saint Marys River. On the left hand you already see the USA.

This bridge connects Canada and the USA.

Driving by Lake Superior

The next day my journey already moved on for a longer day drive of 700 km and it took me a whole day. Not because I had to take breaks to recover, but because I wanted to stop as often as possible to enjoy the way even more. Driving through Ontario, especially by the big lakes is stunning. I wish I would had booked a night somewhere in between, just to spent more time in the nature beside the road. I got to Thunder Bay an hour after sunset. You’ll see lots of diverse trees, rock formations in colors ranging from grey, to black, to brown, to red or a mix of all of it. Beautiful stunning lakes and even though it was raining half the day and was clouded all of it, I still loved it! My pictures can’t even get near to what it felt to me driving that road. I’m so lucky to have this chance to explore Canada and so far I really enjoyed it and don’t have any regrets.

Thunder Bay

In Thunder Bay I spent two days and explored the area around it. I’m still not in the city mood, so if you ask me how the town feels like, I can’t tell you, but the nature around is beautiful 😉

Mount McKay Scenic Lookout 😊

The top of Mount McKay but I didn't hike up and just went as far as the lookout.

Mission Marsh Conservation Area, super cute to walk around.

Saw these cuties near the street.
